The Night of Gore!

I do have vague memories of sitting in my parents’ bedroom at my Dad’s desk, using his typewriter to write this.

I don’t remember exactly when I wrote this absurdly-violent wall-of-text short story. I suspect it was early in junior high, so I was probably 11-12 years old, at most. I’d still read a lot of violent, men’s adventure-style fiction at that point, various Vietnam memoirs and Gold Eagle titles like Able Team, Phoenix Force, and Mack Bolan. I also picked up and read various paramilitary and firearms enthusiast magazines back then, so while I was just a lad, I had a lot of disturbingly accurate gun knowledge rattling around in my head.

I have no idea how I decided on the plot of this story. This was well before I was playing Dungeons & Dragons, and I was never really into horror movies and fiction. I recall that I saw EVIL DEAD 2 some time in junior high, and it is possible that was what motivated me to write this story, since both stories feature grotesque, undead, unkillable creatures. I truly do not recall, although I do have vague memories of sitting in my parents’ bedroom at my Dad’s desk, using his typewriter to write this.

Most of my stories back in my early years were written in notebooks. Later on, I used a desktop computer and eventually my own electric typewriter (I bought the typewriter for $50 from a friend’s mother, because I wanted a more authentic writing experience. I was a pretentious little shit even then). That this was written very early on, and on a typewriter (despite my terrible technique) is rather unique for me, so I thought it would be interesting to share here with all of you.
